Lighting and Scenic Design
Projects for Theatre Classes
Lighting — Home Entertainment/Living Room Design
I used Unreal Engine to model my living room space (to challenge myself with that constraint). Then, in Unreal Engine, I arranged the furniture/decorations (using meshes I found online) and lit the room to show my design ideas.
Scenic Design for "Annie Jump and the Library of Heaven"
First, I thoroughly analyzed the script, which involved not only a comprehensive scenic breakdown— but also understanding the themes and character development important to the message and intention of the show. I also engaged in extensive research and created a concept statement.
The set is designed with the expectation that projections covering the whole stage would be used frequently throughout the show. Moreoever, many different locations would be represented with a unit set with limited wing/backstage space, which required creativity (and several design revisions) to have all these aspects fit together.
The final set design involves domes and turntables that spin to cover and uncover set pieces. The shapes of the set invoke images of astronomy, religion, and the rocks of the landscape important to the story.
To present my design, I created a model and documentation in SolidWorks. I 3D printed the SolidWorks model and painted the 3D print.
